Canadian Celebrity Trivia Questions With Answers: No US Star Defaults
Canadian celebrity trivia questions with answers using Degrassi, Schitt's Creek and CRTC-funded names, plus a sample table and five-step check.
What to take away
- Write the answer first. Pick a person with a documented Canadian work, then build the clue around that work.
- Name the Canadian title inside the questionSchitt's Creek, Degrassi, Letterkenny, Corner Gas, Kim's Convenience, Trailer Park Boys.
- The void rule borrowed from CRTC content logic binds broadcasters, not pub quizzes. Your host applies it as a house rule.
- Check every name against a provincial vital statistics office, a label bio, or the performer's official site.
The Canadian answer rule and where it comes from
A Canadian question is defined by its answer, not its clue. Start with a person who has a Canadian work on their record, then write the question backwards from there.
The consequence is narrower than most guides admit. If the answer is a US star, the host can void the round as not Canadian content. That rule is borrowed from broadcast regulation, not from law.
The CRTC sets Canadian content requirements for licensed radio and television, and MAPL (music, artist, production, lyrics) is the test applied to songs. No regulator audits your quiz night.
Adopting the logic still helps. A question answered by a US star rewards US-only memory and marks the quiz as an import. Celebrity Trivia Questions for Work explains how to keep a question defensible in a workplace round.
Canadian works and names that hold up
Build a short list of works and mine it repeatedly. Degrassi: The Next Generation produced Drake and Nina Dobrev. Schitt's Creek produced Dan Levy and Annie Murphy. Letterkenny came from Jared Keeso, and Corner Gas came from Brent Butt.
Two more benches sit in comedy. Kim's Convenience and Trailer Park Boys each ran long enough to supply a dozen usable answers.
Music gives you Celine Dion, Shania Twain, The Weeknd and Joni Mitchell. Leonard Cohen and Alessia Cara cover different decades, so the set does not lean on one era.
Canadian television and music draw from both domestic and international markets, as the Culture of Canada overview notes. Streaming puts both markets in one catalogue.
Two rules keep the list useful. Every row names a work, and every work has a Canadian production credit.
Wikipedia's List of Canadians is a starting point, but it includes people with thin ties. A quiz row needs a specific work attached, not a birthplace alone.
Stage names need a different record than birth names. A Celebrity Real Names Quiz covers the source-by-source method for those answers.

Five checks before a question joins the bank
- Name the Canadian work before any US credit.
- Put the city or province in the clue, not only the Hollywood project.
- Verify the name against a government record or a label bio. In the US the CDC page on where to write for vital records shows the registry model; in Canada the equivalent is the provincial vital statistics office.
- Confirm the answer owns a named Canadian work when the question says "Canadian star".
- Read the clue to one Canadian player. If they reach for a US name, rewrite it.
Five-Move Canadian Question Check
- Name Canadian work before US role
- Put city or province in clue
- Verify name via Canadian source
- Answer must have Canadian work
- Test with one Canadian player
The same discipline applies to prize questions, and how to verify an awards trivia question runs that check in one evening.
Example: rewriting a US-default clue
US default: "Which actor played a superhero in a Marvel film?" Answer: Robert Downey Jr. Canadian lead: "Which actor from Vancouver played Deadpool in two films?" Answer: Ryan Reynolds.
The Canadian lead keeps the Marvel hook and anchors the answer to a Canadian city and a Canadian-born actor. The US version leaves the host with nothing local to point at when a team challenges.
Two markets also share a release calendar, which is why a Canadian film can read as American on paper. Check who made it before the clue ships.
A clue may name a US project as long as the Canadian fact lands first. Reynolds is the Canadian fact and Deadpool is only the hook.
Some claims cross the border unchanged and some do not. Celebrity Trivia Myths vs Facts is worth a pass before the round is final.
